M&T Seniors scholarship in the arts: Through generous donations from M&T Bank, the Delaplaine is pleased to offer it's senior members an opportunity to take a class for free!Scholarship awards cover the tuition fee for one class per session for Delaplaine members over 65. 9 TuesdaysApril 13 - June 86:00 PM - 9:00 PMCost: $280 ($260 members)Potters with experience on the wheel will practice their skills in order to find their own style, working at their own pace. Instruction will be geared to each student’s needs. Class includes demonstrations, hands-on experimenting, and group critiques. The emphasis will be on functional forms and attention will be paid to finishing, decorating, and glazing.
Ceramic class fee includes 25 pounds of clay, glazes and firing. Students must register at least one week in advance.
9 FridaysApril 16 - June 119:30 AM - 12:30 PMCost: $280 ($260 members)Discover the endless versatility of clay as you learn how to form it into anything from mugs to sculpture. Hand building techniques such as coils, pinching and working with slabs will be covered. Design and aesthetics are encouraged by examples from historic and current world cultures. This class allows time for creating, glazing and firing pottery, and is appropriate for both beginning and intermediate students. Curriculum is flexible to allow for individual direction.
8 MondaysApril 12 - June 7No class: May 319:30 AM - 12:00 PMCost: $175 ($155 members)Drawing skills are fundamental to working successfully in any medium. In this class, student artists can explore many of the technical and conceptual possibilities for developing and enhancing a personal visual language. The emphasis will be on the ability to truly “see” the subject matter in order to facilitate artistic interpretation.
8 TuesdaysApril 13 - June 11:00 PM - 4:00 PMCost: $235 ($215 members)This class covers the fundamentals of woodworking and furniture making. Learn the processes and techniques from milling lumber to finishing. Building a small table will be the major emphasis of this class. Demonstrations and lectures cover a variety of techniques that will guide you through your project from design to finish. This class is also appropriate for teens.
