Scholarship awards cover the tuition fee for one class per session for Delaplaine members over 65.
A limited number of scholarships are available and they cannot be applied to supply fees or workshops.

This class acquaints students with the procedures necessary to progress in the study of portraiture using drawing media. A cabochon is a gemstone which has been shaped and polished as opposed to faceted. Each student will be taught how to do a basic wrap of a 30 x 40 cabochon.  After having time to develop their skill in wrapping the basic cabochon the instructor will demonstrate a number of enhancement techniques for the students to emulate.  There will be enough time for students to complete at least two projects during the day.

Repouse, Reticulation & Forging

Students will be covering basic jewelry-making skills to create a piece of jewelry or sculpture using repousse and forging.  Repousse is a method of creating a relief design by hammering or pressing both sides of metal sheet.  Literal meaning in French is “to push back.”  Forging is hammering metal to transform its shape and size.    The high polish surface of forging and the organic texture of  reticulation and repoussÈ compliment each other.  All levels of experience are welcome.  Class fees include copper, sheet/wire, silver for reticulation, and use of tools.  Material upgrades may be purchased during class.

The international teacher and award-winning painter Skip Lawrence is known for being able to challenge artists to find their own passionate, honest voice.  Through demonstration, lecture, critique, and plenty of personal feedback, Skip’s week-long  workshop brings out the best in every painter.  Skip works in water-media throughout the class, but all media are welcome.

The “Brush and Beyond” workshop will provide an exploration of creative methods of watermedia application including texturing and building layers of paint.  Participants will be exposed to new techniques and materials that will allow them to better express their vision and ideas through painting.  Methods and materials will be suitable for both representational and abstract imagery.  Demonstrations and discussions will focus on composition and design, new tool construction, recharging your work, sources of inspiration, and the business of being an artist.  Each day will include painting time and optional critiques.
Participants will develop a strong sense of style in water media and mixed media with an emphasis on the creative approach to image making.
