Introduction to Ceramics

AA1 (ages 13-16) 9 days. June 23 - July 3 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Cost: $190 ($170 member) Discover the endless versatility of clay as you learn how to form it into anything from mugs to sculpture. Hand building techniques such as coils, pinching and working with slabs, as well as using the potter’s wheel will be covered. This class allows time for creating, glazing and firing pottery and is appropriate for both beginning and intermediate students. Curriculum is flexible to allow for individual direction. Supply fee includes 25 pounds of clay, glazes and firing.

Introduction to Black & White Photography

There will be a combination of lectures and demonstrations, with the majority of the time spent in the darkroom. Participants must have a 35-mm SLR with manual option camera and supply their own film.

Fundamentals of Drawing

This class will emphasize drawing from real objects in natural situations to focus on the concepts that are vital to any artist’s education: composition, line, value and perspective. Using a variety of media, including pencils, pens and charcoal, students will strengthen their skills through a series of projects to increase their knowledge of art and design.

Woodcarving

Use of reciprocating carvers and rotary cutters will be explored. Techniques will include woodcuts, sign making, relief carving and small sculptures. Projects will be taken from Native American and African Arts. Safety, proper clamping, hand placement, and tool control will be taught. (Basic Wood required)
