Clay for Parent and Child

Cost:  $165 (member $145)
This 5-week class is designed to encourage both child and parent to explore and experiment with the incomparable material of clay.  Using various hand-building methods, we will coil, pinch and fling our way into functional (or not) pieces.  Decoration and glazing techniques will also be covered. Come prepared to have fun!

Creative Escapades

Drawing, painting ,and other challenges will be presented to enhance the concepts of design and creative imagery, while keeping young artists focused on the joy of artistic expression.  Necessary basics - such as color theory, perspective, line, form, and composition - will also be covered.

Art Fundamentals

This class introduces the budding artist to the wonderful world of art.  Fundamentals such as design, color theory, perspective, line and form are taught through fun and creative projects. Students will experiment with different media and concepts to develop skills.

Multimedia Explorations

Have you ever wanted to use wierd, wild, fun, and even ridiculous things to create artwork? Dare to mix it up and find out why so many contemporary artists are using unusual media in their art work. Students will use unusual items like plastic bottles, artificial flowers, plates, string, foam, and other found objects combined with conventional artistic media create fantastic one-of-a-kind compositions in both two and three dimensions. Explore this exciting world of imaginative art where there are no limits on your creativity.

Basic Wood

This class allows students to select a project based on individual skill levels.  The use of hand tools for sawing, drilling, nailing, and shaping will be emphasized.  Sanding and finishing techniques will also be taught.  Students will explore wood burning, jewelry making, carving, and intarsia.  Projects include toys, puzzles, boxes, stools, walking sticks, and more.  All students will practice safety procedures.

Contemporary Drawing for Teens

Every artist needs a strong understanding of drawing.  Students will develop traditional drawing skills through innovative exercises in a variety of mediums.  Fun and challenging exercises will help make the use of new tools and techniques more enriching and expand the definition of ‘drawing’.

Teen Metal

Cost:  $170 (member $150)
Choose your own project, sculpture, jewelry or fenders for your bike.  Think about what you would like to do and bring your ideas to class. Basic techniques of metal smithing as well as metal architecture and the science of metallurgy and alchemy will be covered. All students must practice safety procedures and require a permission form to use equipment.
