EXHIBITS ~

Housed in a former flour mill, the Delaplaine houses six galleries on two floors that showcase solo and group exhibitions on a rotating basis. Exhibit Receptions are held on the first Saturday of each month from 3—5 pm. Additionally, our Community Art Gallery features new works from area schools and community organizations. The Gift Gallery offers works for sale by our member artists. Open 7 days and admission is always free!

Frederick All-County Public School Student Art Exhibition
March 6—28
An annual exhibition featuring student works chosen by Frederick County art teachers showcasing works in a variety of mediums by students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Featuring nearly 200 works in all media this year Frederick Cou
nty also can boast of a Maryland Distringuished Scholar Andrew Casadonte from Walkersville High School.

Paintings by Marjorie Price
April 3 - April 25

An exhibition of large scale, acrylic paintings by author and artist Marjorie Price that capture the freedom and abandon experienced by the swimmer when released from the pull of gravity. These colorful works belong to a series begun in 1986 and are an exuberant exploration of how the body feels and moves through water. Ms.   Price will present a gallery talk on the creative processes of painting and writing: Saturday, April 3 at 2pm.

 A  septuagenarian celebration! This popular exhibit features a range of works by artists 70 years or older. Having shed the conventiions of their younger years and spread their creative wings, local avid hobbyists to regionally known professional and career artists present work in a variety of mediums.

Quilts by Elaine Brandes

  Quilt artist and plein-air painter Elaine Brandes creates 'paintings' with fabric, needle, and thread. In 
  this art quilt exhibit, the artist combines her love of texture, color, and design to create unique images
  inspired by the mysteries of the natural world.
 
 
 

The Art of Flowers: Sonia Gadra, Elizabeth Holm and Merri Nelson
 May 1 - June 27
An exhibition of floralpaintings tha offers a colorful and varied garden view.  Gadra paints from life as well as
photographs to create large format oil paintings that focus on intricate patternsand hues of nature.  Holm creates large, bold florals in acrylic and pastel while Nelson captures the soft colors and details in colored pencil and graphite.

Voyages

Prints by Jenny Freestone
January 9—March 13
LAST WEEK FOR THIS EXHIBIT
An exhibition of etchings, lithographs, drypoints, and photogravures that document the local and international voyages taken by Jenny Freestone since her move to the United States from the UK twelve years ago. The images, whether representational or symbolic, focus on natural forms and their environmental vulnerability.


  Exploring Earth Tones

 Paintings by Kaye Layne
 March 20 - April 25
 

  The earth tones of the panhandle of Texas where Ms. Layne was born and spent her childhood provide the palette for her large abstract paintings. In this exhibition, the artist explores harmony, landscape and geometry to achieve a deep sense of place.  Her works are textured utilizing simple planar compositions while incorporationg trowel marks, crumpled paper and paste medium to achieve depth and emotion.

TRANSFORMATIONS


Sculptures by Alexandra Zealand
January 9—March 14
THIS SHOW ENDS THIS SUNDAY !  These abstract and emotionally loaded sculptures were created through massing everyday trash objects. Gathering materials such as grape stems, coffee filters, and burnt matches into new objects, the artist explores the conflicts inherent in ephemera: growth versus purpose, beauty versus fragility, and protection versus death.

Tooley's black and white images reflect isolation and solitude. She captures certain scenes, especially   ones she remembers from her youth: flowers growing wildly in open fields, empty roads with sun            filtering through the trees, and mist coming off the mountains.

 Photographer Lee Permenter is a self-taught artist who explores unique and intricate structures found in the natural world that are typically overlooked. In this exhibition of black and white photographs, Permenter presents “portraits” that he considers worthy of closer inspection. His work transforms the commonplace into stunning elegance.

We are always seeking proposals for shows in six of the galleries, as well as school or other community groups for the Community Art gallery. Download an exhibit proposal form from below or call 301.698.0656, ext. 115 to have a copy mailed to you.  Proposals are reviewed by the Exhibit Selection Panel and most exhibits are scheduled two years in advance.

Calls for Entry: Please make sure that the center has your current email address on file so that we can send exhibit notifications as they are announced. New exhibit opportunities are sent to artists via email, listed on the web, and printed in our catalog ~ they are no longer sent in a separate mailing.
