Air Chasing

Description: Master air chasing, a type of form folding that produces one-of-a-kind, organic textures in metal. Practice the technique using hammers and dapping tools while creating a bracelet or necklace pendant. PREREQUISITE: Basic Soldering and prior metalsmithing experience. MATERIALS LIST: Safety items required: safety glasses; disposable foam earplugs; dust mask (available for purchase at the Delaplaine); Padded gardening gloves are recommended for your comfort while hammering metal. Each student will complete an air chasing project using either metal sheet or tubing. Bring the following, if you have it: (1) 6x6" 26-gauge copper OR (1) 6x3"silver sheet; (1) 6" piece of 3/4" copper tube (M size .015-.020" thick) OR (1) 6" piece of sterling silver tube (.018-.020" thick, 5-10 mm diameter). NOTE: 26-gauge copper sheet will be available for purchase at the Delaplaine. Copper tubing and silver solder will be provided.
